Who We Are
Joyce Van Horn
I gazed at the night sky for hours when I was a kid. It spoke to me but I didn't yet understand its language. Astrology found me when I was 12 and has been a grand obsession and undying love ever since.
I've been a professional astrologer for over 25 years in San Francisco, teaching, counseling, writing and giving workshops. I've written several professional astrology columns and articles (including The Mountain Astrologer). Currently I am working on an article about progressed and solar arc Mercury (and would love to talk to you about any of your personal experiences in that area) and am scheduled to speak on the same topic at SFAS (San Francisco Astrological Society) on January 25, 2010. I've lectured to a wide variety of groups, including the Junior League and the San Francisco Library Program for Teens. I actively blog on Wordpress.com and my website and am active on both Twitter (as cosmiccurlgirl) and Facebook. Check ‘em out!
I first discovered Steven Forrest in 1985 at the checkout line in a grocery store, The Inner Sky. I was hooked. Fortunately, he came to the San Francisco Bay Area regularly and I never missed one. But I was determined to study with him face-to-face. In 1998, I heard about his new Apprenticeship Program in Southern California and attended three. However, after getting horribly lost on the San Diego freeway in a very bad part of town and barely making my flight out, I asked Steven how he'd feel about having a residential retreat in Northern California's wine country. The AP began in 2000, and in 2006 I began co-facilitating the retreat twice yearly.
I live and practice in a turn-of-the-century Victorian in the heart of San Francisco with my Sagittarian sweetheart of over twenty years and two cool cats, Curious and Trouble. I love to read, philosophize, hang with friends, garden, laugh till I cry, see good theater, dance and films and travel, both within the USA and internationally. Most of the time I find life a delicious adventure.
Look to the stars and they will light your way!
Joyce
